Project Description

This project involves construction of a 1,200 square foot chemistry teaching and research laboratory with a chemical storage room, a 250 square foot preparation room, and research and office space. Additional renovations to existing laboratory space include upgrades to workstations, utilities and safety equipment.

Primary Area of Benefit

  1. Expands or enhances utility of research and development space: The new lab space will facilitate the hiring of new faculty and enable the University to develop and maintain research programs. The project will facilitate new Chemistry research and ongoing work in cell biology in collaboration with the University of Illinois and the University of Manitoba.
  2. Expands or enhances utility of training space: This project doubles existing laboratory space, which allows the institution to increase capacity by 66 percent. In addition, the new modern space provides students with sound training in small groups using a variety of methods and equipment.
  3. Upgrades health and safety aspects of facilities: The new laboratories are designed to meet current health and safety standards.
