Project Description

This project involves undertaking phase 1 of infrastructure upgrades to the Barclay chemistry building. This phase includes replacing the roof and exterior fire hydrants, installing deluge showers for research labs and emergency power, upgrading the water supply and waterproofing the grade areas.

Primary Areas of Benefit

  1. Improves energy efficiency: This project reduces energy consumption through mechanical and electrical upgrades including lighting system improvements; a more efficient heat, ventilation and air conditioning system; better piping insulation; new exhaust dampers; improved energy management control systems; and better insulated exterior envelope.
  2. Upgrades the health and safety aspects of facilities: This project upgrades health and safety aspects of facilities through infrastructure upgrades such as replacement of building flat roof; waterproofing below grade areas to prevent mould, installation of deluge showers for research labs to conform to current building code, replacement of exterior fire hydrants as well as provision for fire truck access.
