Project Description

This project involves renovating the Swift Current campus and power lab. Renovations include converting a former hospital power plant into a new power engineering lab facility, improving the environmental system, and expanding shop and classroom space. Additional work includes improving cooling and water heating systems, removing mould and asbestos, and installing sprinklers to meet building code requirements.

Primary Areas of Benefit

  1. Expands or enhances utility of training space: Renovations to the lab and classroom space accommodate an increase in capacity of 50 percent in various training programs.
  2. Upgrades health and safety aspects of facilities: Upgrades and a new sprinkler system ensure the facility meets national building codes. In addition, this project improves the health and safety of the facility by removing mould and asbestos, thereby enhancing air quality and the overall learning environment for staff and students.
  3. Improves energy efficiency: Upgrades to heating and cooling systems and hot water boilers improve energy efficiency by 20–25 percent.
