Project Description
This project involves significant renovations to the University of Lethbridge Campus. The renovations include construction of a new research office, support space and graduate research labs for social science, humanities and physics. The renovations affect levels 4, 5 and 6 of University Hall, the south wing of Anderson University Centre for the Arts and level zero of First Choice Centre for Sports and Wellness. Further work includes asbestos removal and installation of efficient electrical and mechanical systems.
Primary Areas of Benefit
- Expands or enhances the utility of training space: The various renovations had a positive impact on the capacity for numerous faculties and programs at the University including but not limited to the Fine Arts departments, music, new media, and photography, modern languages, psychology, physics, social work, math/computer science, information technology and Native American studies program. These renovations improved the facilities for the student's enhancing their educational experience and expanding the capacity of the programs to meet the comprehensive university’s objectives.
- Improves energy efficiency: New electrical and mechanical systems improve energy efficiency of the facilities. It is estimated that the project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 31.24 tonnes of CO2 per year.
- Expands or enhances the utility of Research and Development space: The improved environments will be conducive to fostering growth and development in Social Work and Psychology, extending the application of techniques in counselling services and psychological analysis for the well-being of society in general. The spatial developments in Social Work, Psychology and Research Services facilitate opportunities for expanded research and innovative thinking in the specific areas and into many peripheral areas of research endeavours.
