The King's University College
Project: Infrastructure upgrades to enhance research by faculty and students
Status of Project: Substantially completed
Project Description
This project involves upgrading the infrastructure to enhance the information and data managements system, converting classrooms to biology labs retrofitting of existing greenhouse, upgrading of fume hoods in chemistry labs to improve safety and reduce emissions, replacing the roof and replacing the roof top air handling units with Tempeff dual core air processing units that are 95% temperature-reclaim efficient and designed specifically for northern climates.
Primary Areas of Benefit
- Expands or enhances the utility of Research and Development space: The renovated facilities in Biology and Chemistry enhance research for 9 professors, 4 lab technicians, and student research assistants in conservation of boreal forests, factors in climate change, and strategies for the control of American foulbrood in honey bees.
- Expands or enhances the utility of training space: Improvements to the infrastructure and student facilities at the institution support an additional 250 students over the next 5 years.
- Improves energy efficiency: The new HVAC system include new air processing units capable of reclaiming up to 95% of interior heat and is specifically designed for Northern climates. This will result in substantial savings in electricity and natural gas consumption.
