Manique
Economist, Research and Analysis, Small Business and Marketplace Services Sector
Manique says the scope of her work is what makes it interesting. She’s an economist in the Small Business and Marketplace Services Sector. “As a researcher, I assist in identifying the environments in which small businesses thrive, the barriers they face and the roles that government can play. ”
Manique joined Industry Canada because she was impressed with the diversity of interesting topics and challenges she could explore and specialize in. “In the Small Business and Marketplace Services Sector, there’s no limit to the interesting topics we can work on: youth issues, skills issues, tax policies, venture capital and financing, education, provincial regulations, etc. Having talked to people about Industry Canada I find that few people know about how dynamic this department is, and the potential it offers people from various backgrounds.”
Now that I am no longer in school, I have the time to volunteer at a local community center in Ottawa to help with the management of the recreational programs. Working with the committee members helps me give back to the community and also gain valuable experience.
Manique received her Undergraduate Degree in Economics from the University of Waterloo, and has a Master’s degree in Economic Policy. She was hired in April 2007 through the student bridging program.
