Economist, Policy Development, Spectrum, Information Technologies and Telecommunications Sector

Zahid

Zahid says that working on high-profile files that can have an impact on the Canadian information and communications technology industries, Canada’s economy and its international competitiveness is what makes his job interesting. He’s an economist in the Spectrum, Information Technologies and Telecommunications Sector, and he loves the challenges associated with working on policies of national significance.

Decision-making matters here. You have the opportunity to look at things from different angles, broaden your horizons, and even think outside of the box”.

Some of the interesting files that Zahid is working on are the Canadian video games industry, its international trade policy dimensions and the telecommunications equipment industry files. He is also working on a major paper on the Canadian Information and Communications Technologies sector.

About his Work Environment…
“It is very professional and appreciative of young people. We are always open to fresh ideas coming from new graduates. Here, senior staff come up to you and ask for ideas. That’s something that pushes you to be more ambitious and work harder. That’s every day at work”.

Zahid has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Toronto and a Master’s degree in Development Economics from the University of Manchester in the UK. Coming from the private sector, Zahid joined Industry Canada in March 2008 through the university recruitment program.
