Canadian Apparel and Textiles Industries Program (CATIP)

Helping Canadian apparel and textile industries compete globally

New Initiatives

On February 27th, 2004, in response to recommendations from a joint Government-Industry Working Group, the Honourable Lucienne Robillard, former Minister of Industry, announced new measures aimed at increasing the international competitiveness of the Canadian apparel and textile industries.

The measures, valued at $53.4 million, include $26.7 million over the next three years for CANtex, the Textiles Production Efficiency initiative and, for the Canadian apparel industry, tariff reductions on imported textile inputs used by clothing manufacturers that are expected to amount to $26.7 million over three years.

The new measures, which are intended to help strengthen the competitiveness of Canadian firms, build on the success of the earlier Canadian Apparel and Textiles Industries Program (CATIP), which is fully disbursed.
