What documents must be filed to receive pre-approval of a not-for-profit corporate name?
A request for pre-approval of a not-for-profit corporate name includes:
- A covering letter setting out:
- the proposed corporate name in uppercase or lowercase exactly as you want it to appear on official documents;
- the type of application that the name will be used for (i.e., incorporation, amendment, amalgamation, revival or continuance); and
- contact information (i.e., name, telephone number and email or other address).
- A NUANS Name Search Report for the proposed name that is not more than 90 days old. If the proposed name has two versions, one in English and the other in French, two search reports are required unless the English and French names are very similar (e.g., Dubois Distributions Ltd. and Distributions Dubois Ltée).
- A completed Corporate Name Information Form, which is optional but which would help Corporations Canada make a decision faster.
There is no fee for pre-approval of a corporate name.
