On November 29, 2011, Bill S-3 Federal Law-Civil Law Harmonization Act, No 3 received Royal Assent and came into force.
This bill makes harmonization changes to the Canada Business Corporations Act and the Canada Cooperatives Act.
The objective of the harmonization changes is to ensure that federal legislation integrates the terminology, concepts and institutions of Quebec civil law. French common law terminology is also taken into account in this process. None make any substantive changes to the legislation.
