Prince Edward Island
In Prince Edward Island the Computers for Schools (CFS) program is delivered by the PEI Department of Finance & Municipal Affairs through its IT Shared Services branch. The arrangement is an innovative one with the integration of the program into the delivery of technical support services to the schools and public libraries of the province. The PEI Department of Finance & Municipal Affairs provides workshop and storage space, as well as assisting in transportation and administrative services. The Computers for Schools refurbishing and distribution centre is currently located at the ITSS Technology Centre (40 Enman Crescent in Charlottetown). Each year, CFS employs several young Canadians (aged 15-30) with valuable work experience in the Information Technology field through the Technical Work Experience Program (TWEP). A majority of the equipment donated to the program comes from federal and provincial government departments and agencies. Donations help keep this program operating smoothly, and provide Prince Edward Island students with a chance they may not otherwise have. Donations from business and the public are welcomed.
