Modes of Payment

CIPO accepts the following modes of payment:

Note: All fee payments must be made to CIPO in Canadian dollars. Foreign currencies will not be accepted as payment for any fees.

Cash/Debit Cards

Payments using cash or debit card are accepted only at CIPO Headquarters located at 50 Victoria, Place du Portage 1, 2nd commercial level in Gatineau, Quebec.

Credit Cards

Credit cards: Visa, MasterCard and American Express only

CIPO provides a summary report of credit card transactions for clients with a minimum of one transaction for the month. Note that this is for paper filing only.

Note that there is a limit of $99,999 or 500 files on online credit card transactions.

Deposit Accounts

Opening a deposit account

To open a deposit account, please complete and submit the deposit account form.

Using your deposit account

To use your deposit account to pay via the e-filing systems released before April 1, 2008, you only list your current deposit account number.

To use a deposit account to pay via the e-filing systems released after April 2008, designated members of your firm must be set up to access the new deposit accounts systems.

  • To request access to your deposit accounts to authorized Strategis User(s) in your firm, you must contact CIPO's Finance Branch in writing using the access form.
  • Include the name of your firm, deposit account numbers, and the Strategis user account number(s)

Replenishing your deposit account

To replenish your deposit account, fill out the fee payment form and submit it to CIPO with your payment by:

Deposit accounts can be replenished by cash*, debit card*, credit card, cheque, money order, wire transfer.

Deposit Account Statements

CIPO provides a summary report of deposit account transactions for clients with a minimum of one transaction for the month and with a residual balance in the account.

Electronic-Filing/Online limits

Note that there is a limit of 500 files per deposit account transaction.

Closing your deposit account

To close your deposit account, please complete and submit the close a deposit account form.

Cheques/Money Orders

All cheques and money orders must be in Canadian dollars, and made payable to the Receiver General for Canada.

Wire Transfer

Important Information: All electronic funds transfers must be made through the Bank of Nova Scotia, in Canadian dollars and be made payable to the Receiver General for Canada.

Please note that you are responsible for any transaction fees charged by your banking institution. All charges relating to electronic payments are to be paid by the customer and not deducted from the remittance amount.
