Revised Chapters of the MOPOP Released

The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) has revised several sections in various chapters of the Manual of Patent Office Practice (MOPOP) to remove all references to "representative" to reflect a recent change to the Patent Act in which section 29 was repealed. A comprehensive list of the changes is available online on the MOPOP Revision History web page.

The MOPOP is a guide for patent examiners, applicants, agents and the public looking for information about the operational procedures and examination practices of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO).

Practices expressed in the MOPOP reflect the patent office's interpretation of the Patent Act, Patent Rules and jurisprudence, as of the date each chapter or section came into effect. The revised chapters reflect the patent office's official practice.

If you have any questions about these revisions, please contact Josée Pharand, Program Manager, Examination Practice.
