4. Submit the completed application

Once you have prepared your application package and made sure it meets our requirements, you are ready to submit your application and pay your fees.

Application fee and late fee

If you did not pay the application fee when you filed (2. Get a filing date), you need to pay the application fee and the late fee. We will send you a notice that tells you which fees you need to pay. You'll have 3 months from the notice date to pay your fees or your application will be withdrawn.

Maintenance fees

You'll have to pay fees throughout the application process and during the 20-year term of your patent (if granted), including the annual maintenance fees. Fees can be paid on a yearly basis or several years up front.

To pay your fees online, you can only use:

Online payments are processed Monday to Friday from 6:30 am to 10:00 pm (ET). For security reasons, your session will be timed out after 30 minutes if there is no activity.

How to submit in person

Bring your application and fees to a designated regional establishment (office).

How to pay your fees

To pay in person, you need to use the fee payment form. You can download and complete the fee payment form and bring it with you to a designated regional establishment (office). If you can't download a copy, we will have a paper copy you can use.

How to submit by fax

You can fax your completed application to either of the following numbers:

Note that the model of facsimile is a Xerox C505/X and that this information may be needed to ensure a successful colour transmission.

The electronic transmittal report returned to you following your facsimile transmission is your acknowledgment receipt. Confidentiality of the facsimile transmission process can't be guaranteed.
