Description:

In 1996, pursuant to commitments made under the Agreement on Internal Trade, and given the particular nature of the door-to-door sale as a distinct marketing category where the consumer may be particularly vulnerable to high-pressure sales tactics, Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers Responsible for Consumer Affairs agreed to a harmonised set of rules governing the regulation of direct sellers. The highlights include a common ten day cooling off period for consumers to cancel a contract and a harmonised statement on the buyer's right to cancel to be included in all direct sales contracts. All jurisdictions have implemented the appropriate regulatory instruments for national harmonisation in this regard.
