F&P created self-directed and empowered teams to tackle the plants energy efficiency savings programs; closely monitor the metrics to help quantify the return on investment; and fostered activities and incentives to encourage employees' involvement in continuous improvement plans.
Contributing Techniques and Tools
- Expansion of the company's technologically advanced processes, including: hydroforming, laser cutting, machining, laser detection and vision systems.
- Established a "Green Team" to cut costs and become more environmentally friendly.
- Replaced all fluorescent lights with more efficient T8 and T5 bulbs. These bulbs use less energy but give the same level of brightness.
- Implemented tooling initiatives to speed up changeover inefficiencies.
- Decreased the amount of material being brought into the plant, lowered inventory costs and reduced the number of routes by trucks between firms and suppliers.
