Subject: copyright law

Hello, I am a canadian citizen living in montreal, QC. I would like to be sure that our new law wont be too hard like the american DMCA. I think that there should be a clear line between the common user and the copyright holder that gives reasonable power to both. I think that copyright owner should not have the right to outlaw speech(and software represention of such a speech) about their technologies. I also think that reverse engineering is important and useful and it should not be made illegal. DVD technology is an interesting example of what most canadian think should be legal and what should not be. I think that if I buy a DVD, I have the right to do whatever pleases me with it unless it goes against the copyright holder right to profit from his possession. I think it should be lawful to play a dvd anyway I want, using any device I want. I think it should be unlawful to publicly distribute dvd that I do not own the right to, sell them, etc. I think the law should not make it illegal to do activity which may be used for piracy but is not. Let's say I make a copy of a dvd, using a software which is illegal under DMCA, and leave it in my summer house, this should be legal.

Essentially, I think that the technology and speech shall not be made illegal in anyway, but the ACT of pirating willfuly should be.
