Subject: Canadian copyright reform

To who it may concern:

I write this to express my distrust of the proposed Consultation Paper on Digital Copyright Issues. 2600 magazine and a russian programmer (Dimitri Skylarov) are currently being sued for innovating a solution that would allow people who don't run the Windows operating system to use/watch digital conten under the DMCA. I understand that copyright owners would like to protect their digital works, but I don't belive that forcing freedom-reducing laws on the general populous, even those of us who would wish to excersize our fair use rights is the way to do that. If Canada were to implement a law that makes programs such as DeCSS illegal, it would seriously retard innovation, and strengthen the Microsoft (illegal) monopoly. Also, it would make it nearly impossible for me to read e-books that i legally purchased, and DVD movies (again, that I legally purchased) just because they're digital.
