Subject: Comment: Reform of Canadian Copyright
I'm given to understand that the Canadian government is considering copyright reform with respect to digital copyright. Worse, I'm also given to understand that the reform is based on the DMCA in the states, which tilts the balance of favour heavily away from the people, and towards corporate interests. One of the things about the DMCA that's always amused me is that it seemed to 'American'. I'd hate to think that we were following in their footsteps by implementing similar legislation. Please reconsider the actions you are taking, and concentrate on enabling free speech and the free trade of conceptualization.
In the words of the EFF: "I urge you to remove these controversial and anti-freedom provisions from the CPDCI language. The DMCA is already an international debacle. Its flaws should not be imported and forced on Canadians." I strongly agree with those phrases. Don't make the same mistakes that our neighbours to the south have made.
