Subject: CPCDI
To Industry Canada, the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Intellectual Property Policy Directorate and other concerned agencies:
I am writing to express my concern for the proposed provision of the Consultation Paper on Digital Copyright Issues (CPCDI). I am shocked and horrified that the Candian government would suggest taking such extreme messures.
These measures too closing mimic the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DM0A). This law has proven to be harmful to everyone except a few large coporations. In fact these provisions would not be in accordance with the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. These provisions would harm security research, freedom of speech rights and fair use copyright.
I would urge the Candian government not to implement such legislation that would hurt the freedom of Canadians and people from around the world. Please, do no give in to the pressures of American coporate interests, and protect the interest of Canadians.
