Objet : CPDCI concerns
As an enthusiastic adopter of digital technologies, specifically those concerning computers and the use of the world wide web, news of legal action against one who was experimenting for the good of the public, with no malicious intentions [I am sure you are aware of the Russian programmer arrested in the US for copyright infringement involving some Adobe software products] is very disconcerting.
The aforementioned incident demonstrates where the governments concern lies in a publisher-public [a voting public] struggle.
Laws that restrict such activities, restrict the publication of said knowledge is crippling to the academic, industry, and public realms here in Canada.
Should we not be legally entitled to know when a component in our vehicle has been manufactured improperly, and poses a threat to our safty, and safe operation of said vehicle?
I do not trust the manufacturer/publisher to use the same scrutiny when examining product as an end user.
That said, I do not support the efforts of the Canadian agency Intellectual Property Policy Directorate in making the CPDCI in the image of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act [DMCA]; providing a muzzle for the public, while the publishers do not have to be held accountable for poorly produced product.
