Tutorial 2: Registering a loan

Female host on camera:

Welcome to the second of four tutorials on the Canada Small Business Financing Program's Online Loan Registration Application. In the first tutorial, you learned how to create a user account and get access to the loan registration application. With those steps completed, you can now begin registering loans that qualify for the Canada Small Business Financing Program (CSBFP).

Female host voiceover:

To access the registration application, first go to the program home page.

Once there, click on "Toolbox for lenders."

(cut to Toolbox for lenders page)

Under "Make and register a CSBFP loan," click on "CSBFP Online Loan Registration Application."

(page scrolls down)

(cut to Online Loan Registration Application page)

Then, click on the "Launch the CSBFP Online Loan Registration Application" link, in the lower portion of your screen, to go to the main page of the application.

(cut to Application Login page)

Enter your email address and password, and click "Sign in."

(cut to You have successfully logged in page)

Once you have logged in, you have two options.

You can access the application main site. To do so, click on "CSBFP."

(CSBFP link is highlighted while the rest of the screen darkens)

And you can change your personal settings. This is where to go when you want to change your password, secret question or personal information.

(Personal settings links are highlighted while the rest of the screen darkens)

Before leaving this screen, I'll just point out the link to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Canadian Agricultural Loans Act program.

(CALA link is highlighted while the rest of the screen darkens)

You will only be able to access the registration application for that program if your financial institution is registered with it. And just a reminder that this tutorial concerns only the Canada Small Business Financing Program.

(CSBFP link is clicked and cut to Online Loan Registration Application page)

You are now on the main page of the registration application. The application includes a number of modules.

(each link on the main portion of screen is highlighted as it is spoken while the rest of the screen darkens)

  • You can create new loan registrations.
  • You can view or modify existing registrations.
  • You can search for existing registrations.
  • You can view registrations for which you still have to pay the 2-percent fee.
  • You can view the status of claim submissions.

To access the various modules, click either on an option in the left navigation menu or on one of the links in the main portion of the screen.

(left navigation menu and the menu in main portion of screen are highlighted in succession while the rest of the screen darkens)

In this tutorial, I will walk you through how to create a new loan registration.

First, click "Create registration."

(cut to Create registration page)

On the Create registration screen, enter the transit number. For our example, we'll use "00001." Next, enter the type of borrower: sole proprietor, partnership, corporation or cooperative.

For our example, we'll choose "corporation." Finally, enter the name of the borrower.

If you are not sure what to put in any field, click on the numbered box next to it.

Click "Continue."

(cut to next Create registration page)

On the next screen, click the "Lender" tab. Enter the "Lender Loan Number." For our example, we'll use "123456." Click "Next."

(cut to next Create registration page)

On this screen, enter the borrower's address, telephone number, Canada Revenue Agency business number. If you do not have all the required information, you can use the Save-Pending option and come back to the registration later. Once you have filled out all the fields on the screen, click "Next."

(cut to next Create registration page)

On this screen, continue entering the required loan information, such as Estimated Annual Gross Revenue, Industrial Sector, years in business, Franchise, number of employees. The system will not let you save a registration when any of the mandatory fields are empty. The mandatory fields are marked with a red star.

If you click "Save-Registered" when some fields are not complete, a pop-up box will appear highlighting the missing data. Once you have filled out all the fields on the screen, click "Next."

(field with missing data is bolded)

(cut to next Create registration page)

On this tab, continue entering the required loan information, such as the date of approval, first disbursement date, amortization period, type of interest rate, and name of guarantor. Once you have filled out all the fields on the screen, click "Next."

(cut to next Create registration page)

On this tab, fill in the loan amounts and the percentage of asset cost financed CSBF loan. Click "Next."

(cut to next Create registration page)

Under the Transactions tab, you will find the exact registration fee amount to be paid. You will also see a note about your financial institution's preferred method of payment. The institution will either use the electronic bill payment system or pay by cheque. I'll go over this in more detail in Tutorial 3. Once you have filled out all the fields on the screen, click "Next."

Text on screen:

(cut to next Create registration page and Scroll down as information is being entered)

On this tab, continue entering the required loan information, such as the initials and the name of the responsible officer of the borrower and the information of the authorized representative of the lender.

(save-pending button is clicked)

(cut to loan registration Pending Status page)

At this point, we recommend that you save the file as "Pending" in order to print the application form and obtain the borrower's signature before you formally register the file. Please remember to keep the signed copy of the application for your files.

(the Return to registration button is clicked)

(cut to View registration page)

Once you are ready to register the loan, click "Modify."

(cut to Modify registration page)

Then, click "Save-Registered."

(cut to Registered Status (Awaiting Fees) page)

A new screen will appear to confirm that your registration has been saved successfully.

Please take note of the registration number. You will need it when you submit the 2-percent registration fee. I'll explain more about that in Tutorial 3.
