The Electronic Commerce Branch promotes the use of e-commerce as an enabler to trade in a global environment. Electronic Commerce affects a wide range of economic sectors and depends on fair and liberal trade rules. It allows international business to streamline the production process and provides enterprises with access to foreign markets that otherwise might not be possible. Through electronic commerce, a business can potentially market and sell its products online to customers anywhere in the world.

As international borders become seamless in today's world of digital transactions, regulatory clarity and predictability in the marketplace are necessary to ensure continued cross-border e-commerce growth. International agreements contribute to create an environment that support network-based business models.
