About Us

In times of emergency, ensuring the rapid repair, replacement and expansion of telecommunications systems is Industry Canada’s highest priority. These functions are performed primarily by telecommunications service providers, with assistance from our Emergency Telecommunications team as required for addressing the disruptive effects of the emergency. We work with the telecommunications sector to ensure that the telecom needs of first responders are met, and to enhance the restoration of affected telecom networks during emergencies.

We are a proactive organization, participating in telecom industry committees, working with other federal departments, international organizations such as NATO, and other governments around the world. Our regional representatives work closely with provincial emergency management organizations in planning, mitigation, response and recovery.
