Eastern Canada Ice Storm Disaster of 1998

Industry Canada played a key role in supporting the emergency response effort during the ice storm that affected Quebec, Ontario and parts of New Brunswick during the period from January 6 through January 20th, 1998. The following are a selection of situation reports (SITREPS) that were written during that event. They provide an overview of the kind of activity in which Industry Canada, Emergency Telecommunications can and does become involved. As a result of this disaster, Industry Canada at HQ and in the regions is reviewing emergency plans to ensure mitigating steps are taken where possible.
