Features

How to use

Industry Canada has developed a WPS application for the Blackberry. The application makes it easier to use WPS via an icon which adds *272 to any number, detects whether a user is in the correct network mode, and provides instructions on switching the network mode in order to place a WPS call.

To download the blackberry application please contact Industry Canada at the coordinates below:

Louis Ethier, Telephone: 1-866-266-9031 or 613-991-2334
E-mail: Louis.Ethier@ic.gc.ca
Or
Melissa O'Toole, Telephone: 613-990-5752
E-mail: Melissa.O'Toole@ic.gc.ca

Once you have downloaded and installed the application, Industry Canada recommends that you place some WPS calls to get used to the application. You should be testing WPS at least three or four times each year.

Features

The application adds an icon to the Blackberry, which you can move to the desktop for easy access. It adds *272 to any number, detects whether a user is in the correct network mode, retains the last number dialled and provides instructions on switching the network mode in order to place a WPS call. It also allows you to access your personal contacts and those on your corporate server.

The WPS application detects the language that is being used by the Blackberry as well as when the battery is too low or the quality of the coverage. It can also detect a CDMA network and if your Blackberry is in SOS mode.

How to use the application

To download the application, use your Blackberry and press on the link that is provided to you in the email you have received. Press on Download and install WPS v 1.1 Release 1. It will then ask you to Set application permissions, you should then press Download WPS. The application will now begin to download on your Blackberry.

Below are examples of the screens you will see when you use the application to make a WPS call;

Screen 1

This is the first screen you will see when the application is opened on your Blackberry. It is the welcome screen for the WPS Blackberry application and it automatically moves to the following screen.

Screen 2

If you are using a 3G device, the application will detect this and ask you to change your network mode from 3G to 2G to be able to place a WPS call. You have two options: you may press on Show me how to get detailed instructions (see below) or if you already know how to go from 3G to 2G, simply press on Show Dial Screen to proceed with your call.

Screen 3

If you have chosen the option Show Me How you will get the Quick Instruction screen. You can also scroll down for the more detailed instructions. Follow all the steps to change your network mode from 3G to 2G. To view instructions while following the steps for switching to 2G, use the Blackberry menu button BlackBerry logo to Switch Application. Look for the manage connections icon. Switch back to the WPS application at any time.

Screen 4

Once your Blackberry is in 2G mode, you will be able to place your call. If you know the number of the person you wish to reach, simply put the area code and the number. Press Call when you are ready. *272 is automatically inserted before the number.
