The Honourable Diane Ablonczy Celebrates Global Entrepreneurship Week

OTTAWA, November 16, 2009 — Today, the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism), issued the following statement to kick off Global Entrepreneurship Week:

“Starting today, in cities and towns across the country, we are celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week. Canada joins more than 80 other countries around the world in recognizing and celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit.

“The Government of Canada is committed to helping entrepreneurs across our country turn challenges into opportunities and innovative ideas into commercial successes. To help foster entrepreneurship and small business growth, the Economic Action Plan has provided $10 million to the Canada Youth Business Foundation to support and mentor the next generation of entrepreneurs.

“As the Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism) and a former business owner, I would like to extend my appreciation to all Canadian entrepreneurs. Our country has such a rich history of influential and successful entrepreneurs with extraordinary inventions — the zipper, the BlackBerry, the pacemaker, insulin — inventions that have transformed our daily lives.

“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to thank all of our entrepreneurs, whose energy and spirit make our communities a better place to live. Over the next week, let us join in their celebration.”
