Fraud Prevention Month
This year, the Competition Bureau is launching the 7th annual Fraud Prevention Month. Whether it's Internet or mail fraud, deceptive telemarketing or identity theft, fraud is a serious problem. The 2010 campaign theme is Online Fraud. Learn more on how to recognize it, report it and stop it.
Recognize it! Report it!
All Canadians are at risk of being victimized regardless of age, education or income. The most important thing you can do is learn how to recognize the signs of fraud, and know how and where to report it so that our law enforcement agencies can do their work.
Victim Letters
Every year, the Competition Bureau receives an average of 20,000 requests and complaints. These include complaints regarding mass marketing fraud, which is fraud by mail, telephone and Internet. Here are some examples of the kinds of complaints received by the Bureau. Names and certain details have been changed to protect the identities of the victims.
Fraud Quiz
In today's tough economic times, fraudsters are as aggressive as ever in their attempts to defraud innocent victims of their hard earned cash. Decrease your chances of falling victim to fraud by increasing your knowledge of how fraudsters work and what to be wary of if they try to contact you!
FACT
The Fraud Awareness for Commercial Targets (FACT) campaign is an outreach and education initiative that provides businesses and not-for-profit organizations with the facts necessary to avoid becoming victims of fraud, which costs them millions of dollars annually.
