Fax: 905-564-2755
Contact: Dale McMillan at dale@berlet.com
Year Formed: 1958
Employees: 22
Company Summary: Berlet's Telemotive systems are designed to function in the varied extremes of temperature, vibration, shock and aggressive atmospheric conditions quite common to many industrial electrical applications. The components and construction are substantially superior to those acceptable in residential garage door openers, consumer-type electronic products or two-way mobile communication. This is one of the many reasons why our radio systems are now controlling a wide variety of: Overhead cranes, Mining LHD equipment, tanker loading arms, monorails, dockside unloaders, transfer cars, hoists, conveyors, truck-mounted boom cranes, yard locomotives, ingot buggies, back hoes/tractors, railcar movers, furnace doors, stage scenery, gantry cranes, pumps/fans, robotic machines. The Series 18000 system is our newest microcomputer-based engineered system which provides remote radio control and has the capability to interface with automation and/or monitoring systems. As a radio remote control system, it is modular in design for operational control of equipment with up to 64 functions, more powerful than earlier "pioneer" systems and incorporates enhanced diagnostics for troubleshooting. The Series 10K is one of our newest off-the-shelf models which uses microcomputers and other current solid state technology to produce practical, low cost radio remote control systems capable of controlling a wide range of cranes, hoists and monorails in many varied applications. The 10K system brings to the industry the most flexible, pre-engineered, easily installed, easily serviced systems ever offered. The 10K offers either 6, 9, 12, 16 or 24 independent outputs and includes TMS (Time Multiple Sharing) technology and each model can be operated by Telemotive's exclusive pushbutton pendant style transmitter. The 10K systems are all Industry Canada-approved for operation without a users' license. Laser Guard is an advanced laser-based system for use on cranes or other guided machinery where distance control and collision prevention are required. The Laser Guard system, consists of a Class 1 laser transmitter/receiver, special universal mount and reflective target. A typical application would be to mount the laser transmitter/ receiver on the bridge of a crane and the target on the structure of which collision avoidance is desired. The Laser Guard will sense and measure the distance of the crane moving up to 800 feet per minute. The moving crane can be slowed down and stopped by using up to three adjustable range points, thereby eliminating load swing. The laser system is self-monitoring and includes contacts which can be used for alarms or crane shut down.

It exports through its sales network to over 20 countries and many Departments of Transportation on four continents. Through R&D, EIS continues to enhance the performance of its flagship product, the RTMS radar detector. The RTMS (Remote Traffic Microwave Sensor) has been developed as a general-purpose traffic sensor, for replacing the aging (40 year-old) inductive loop technology in Freeway traffic control and in actuated intersections urban traffic control. In the past 10 years it has come to be recognized by traffic engineers worldwide as the most cost-effective solution for traffic detection on highways and at intersections, because it combines five benefits: multiple zone detection (up to eight zones or lanes can be detected by a single unit); true presence detection (detects vehicles whether moving or standing); SIDEFIRE operation (installed on road-side poles without traffic obstruction); high accuracy in all weather operation; low life-cycle-cost (low per-lane procurement cost; no scheduled maintenance required). EIS is also marketing a few turnkey systems based on the acronym title="Remote Traffic Microwave Sensor">RTMS, for traffic counting, queue-length warning, Advanced Traveler Information, Freeway Traffic Management and Adaptive Traffic Control for Urban environments.

Company Summary: PSR Group Ltd. is a Canadian engineering firm specialising in operational support systems for municipal surface operations, including winter maintenance and routine patrols. Since 1994, PSR has been providing expertise, in Canada and the UK, that improves the delivery of winter maintenance services. This is achieved in two ways. One is the computer modelling and optimisation of plowing and salting routes using our MOPS software. This software incorporates advanced link-based/arc-based routing algorithms that have proven themselves over the past decade: up to 25% reduction can be achieved in the number of routes required to deliver a service when compared with routes developed manually. Two is the auditing of service delivery through "real-time" vehicle location and operations monitoring using Wintranet. The Wintranet system incorporates GPS, dataloggers, microprocessors, wireless communications and the Internet and can, at a minimum, provide treatment exceptions reporting and salt spread rate, width and volume.

Company Summary: RightsMarket is in the business of protecting information. Digital information. Wherever it goes. Anytime. Anywhere. Our flagship product, RightsEnforcer, provides clients with total control of their valuable data even when the data moves on to other organizations via the Internet. Clients can control and audit use of their files and even change permissions when it suits them. Many divergent forces are converging to create a vast (do we have any third party stats) market: information is increasingly digital; governments are acting on citizens concerns about privacy in the digital world with significant legislation; business is global. Corporations are increasingly doing business in countries where civil unrest and terrorism are facts of life. Data about corporate activities needs to be protected. Information leaks cost real money and result in lost opportunity. People make mistakes - one of our clients had a person in human resources send out pay grade information to 100 people when only 50 were supposed to get it. With our product, the person could have caught the mistake and corrected it before any invalid recipients could have read it. Health care information is increasingly digital and very private and RightsMarket is poised to capitalize on this market both because of the nature of our technology and because of the way we are approaching the market. RightsMarket solutions are easy to use, easy to understand, easy to implement and easy to operate. Our solutions integrate with clients' existing infrastructure and fill a real world gap in their security suite of tools. This is post delivery control of information.

Company Summary: Security Biometrics Inc. develops, markets and distributes biometric signature authentication solutions powered by Penflow. The system is based on inherent proprietary patents that validate a signature in a quick, non-invasive and highly accurate manner. The Penflow authentication engine views the signing process as a series of movements performed in a continuous, consistent and sequential process. The authentication is performed by employing parameters such as pen speed, acceleration pressure and directional vectors. The proprietary algorithm enables the signature profile (not its image) to be matched automatically. The algorithm contains learning elements so that all the natural changes in a signature are continuously updated into the learning profile that is on an average, less than 1KB. Penflow technology, as simple to apply as signing your name, is mature and proven, requiring no special computer knowledge or training. An off-the-shelf product, Penflow is endorsed by financial, military, industrial and legal institutions. Dynamic signature verification replaces or complements a personal identification number, passwords, hardware devices such as cards (magnetic or SIM) or keys as a means for identity verification.
