Retail Foods Trade Sector Review

To maintain a fair and competitive marketplace, Measurement Canada conducted a review of the rules and practices governing the buying and selling of retail food products based on measurement. The review was completed in May 2003.

Purpose of the Review?

The goal of the review was to consult with those involved in the retail foods sector to determine:

  • the requirements needed to ensure measurement accuracy;
  • the measurement related programs needed and how these programs could be best provided; and
  • how involved Measurement Canada needs to be in order to ensure measurement fairness and accuracy.
