1. It is becoming increasingly difficult for individuals to purchase approved static linear measures for trade applications. Very few static linear measures are approved and many companies have stopped manufacturing them.

2. As a result, the Legal Metrology Branch plans to exempt static linear measures from approval.

3. In the interim, static linear measures should be treated as exempted from approval, as well as initial inspection.

4. This, however, does not exempt static linear measures from measuring within the limits of error prescribed by the Weights and Measures Regulations.
