1.0 Purpose

The purpose of this bulletin is to outline the instances where initial inspection stickers should be used, rather than steel dies, to mark weighing or measuring devices that meet the requirements of the Weights and Measures Act and Regulations.

2.0 Background

Section 29 of the Weights and Measures Regulations requires that a device that meets the requirements of the Weights and Measures Act and Regulations, be marked upon initial inspection. Historically, these markings have been done by means of stamping the device nameplate with steel dies.

3.0 Application

The preferred method of marking the device is to use a steel die as it is more durable than the initial inspection stickers. Initial Inspection stickers should only be used when using a steel die may not be appropriate because of the possibility of damaging the device, etc.

4.0 Revision

The purpose of this revision is to simplify the requirements for Initial Inspection Markings (PBRI008).
