Specifications relating to Multiple-Dimension Measuring Devices

The consultation period begins on August 17, 2010 and ends on October 5, 2010.

Measurement Canada is proposing to adopt the "Specifications relating to Multiple-Dimension Measuring Devices (MDMD)" under the Weights and Measures Act and invites all interested parties to participate in this consultation process.

The proposed specifications apply to devices that measure an object (package, box) and determine the dimensions (length, width and height) of the smallest box (consisting of six flat, rectangular sides) that can contain the object. The dimensions may subsequently be used in calculations to determine the freight, storage or postal charges for the object.

Although the proposed specifications are primarily technical in nature, the proposal may be of interest to consumers and organizations who send packages by postal or delivery services.

Please forward any comments you may have on the proposed specifications, in writing, to the undersigned by the close of business, October 5, 2010.
