2012-10-01

Measurement Canada (MC) has amended the certification requirements applicable to electricity calibration consoles used to assess meters for the purpose of verification, reverification, and/or dispute testing pursuant to the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act. The certification requirements set out in S-E-01—Specifications for the Calibration, Certification and Use of Electricity Calibration Consoles will be updated and the title of the document will be changed to: EL-ENG-12-01—Requirements for the Certification and Use of Measuring Apparatus — Electricity Meter Calibration Consoles.

This document is being developed by a joint working group composed of MC technical and policy representatives, members of the Canadian Electricity Association, accredited utilities as well as manufacturers delegated to certify consoles pursuant to C-D-01:2011—Conditions for the Delegation of Authorities for the Calibration and Certification of Measuring Apparatus Pursuant to the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act.

EL-ENG-12-01 will soon be published on the Agency's website and authorized for use as from January 1, 2013. There will be a one-year transitional period before implementation of the revised certification requirements becomes mandatory. S-E-01 will remain in effect and allowed for use during this period. A policy bulletin containing further information and conditions for the implementation of the updated certification requirements in EL-ENG-12-01 will be issued and published in the coming weeks.
