Policy on Demand Measurement Established Using a Demand Interval Length Other Than the Programmed Demand Interval Length

Measurement Canada (MC) is launching a consultation on the proposed policy on demand measurements established using a demand interval length other than the programmed demand interval length. This consultation will be of primary interest to electricity stakeholders, meter owners and meter manufacturers. The consultation period starts on and ends on .

MC has recently discovered that the demand interval length of certain approved electricity meters can be modified under certain operating conditions or events. Under these conditions, demand interval lengths are temporarily changed such that the energy registered for the purpose of establishing demand is gathered over an interval which may be less than 15 minutes in length. This results in non-compliance with the approval requirement of clause 5.15.3 of specification S-E-06.

The Joint Working Group on Complex Measurement Implementation (CEA, MC and industry) is currently developing demand measurement requirements. It is anticipated that requirements for directional demand (delivered/received) will be developed in the forthcoming months.

Measurement Canada is seeking comments from industry stakeholders on the proposed policy. Please send your written comments to the undersigned before .
