Part 8: Fluidic oscillation gas meters

1.0 Scope

This part of the Specifications applies to fluidic oscillation gas meters submitted for approval and which operate by integrating gas flow through the detection of a gas jet's oscillation frequency.

2.0 Definitions

Fluidic oscillation meter (compteur de gaz à oscillateur fluidique)

A meter consisting of a meter body designed to condition gas flow into jet formation (flow conditioner and jet nozzle), a fluidic oscillation chamber (flow obstacle and sensors) and associated signal processing circuitry.

3.0 Metrological requirements

The applicable requirements of Part 1, section 7.0 shall apply unless otherwise stated in this section.

3.1 Maximum permissible errors

The MPE shall not exceed ± 1% at any flow rate within the flow rate range for which approval is sought.

3.2 Linearity

The linearity of error shall not exceed ± 0.5% at any flow rate within the flow rate range for which approval is sought.

3.3 Repeatability

The repeatability of error shall not exceed ± 0.2% at any flow rate within the flow rate range for which approval is sought.

4.0 Technical requirements

The applicable requirements of Part 1, section 8.0 shall apply unless otherwise stated in this section.

4.1 A pressure tap shall be located on the meter body.

4.2 Where the meter incorporates provisions for converting volume to base conditions of temperature and pressure, the meter shall be capable of registering both converted and unconverted volume.

5.0 Administrative requirements

In addition to the applicable requirements of Part 1, section 11.0, the following apply.

5.1 Notice of approval

Where it can be shown that a meter's accuracy is susceptible to flow pulsations, the NOA shall indicate the appropriate means to use to reduce the intensity of such disturbances to a level which will not cause the meter's accuracy to exceed the MPE specified in subsection 3.1.

6.0 Performance tests

The applicable requirements of Part 1, section 12.0 shall apply unless otherwise stated in this section.

6.1 Accuracy testing

6.1.1 At reference conditions, tests shall be performed at flow rates distributed over the measuring range at working pressures over the specified operating pressure range of the meter (see Part 8, Table 1).

6.1.2 At "other than reference" conditions, tests shall be performed at 0.25 Qmax and a pressure within the meter's intended operating range (see Part 8, Table 1).
