Measuring bulk firewood

Measuring bulk firewood (infographic)
Long description of the infographic

Stack the firewood in a rectangular shape

Ensure the logs are facing the same direction.

Measure the firewood

If measured in centimetres (cm)

  1. multiply the length, height, and width
  2. divide the result by 1 000 000 to get cubic metres (m3)

For example:

200 cm × 100 cm × 100 cm = 2 000 000 cm3 = 2 m3

To convert cubic metres to cords, divide by 3.6.

If measured in inches (in)

  1. multiply the length, height, and width
  2. divide the result by 1728 to get cubic feet (ft3)
  3. divide by 128 to convert cubic feet to cords

For example:

96 in × 48 in × 12 in = 55 296 in3

55 296 ÷ 1 728 = 32 ft3 = ¼ cord
