Product warranty cards

Many companies these days include a great number of very personal questions on warranty cards. These questions are aimed at finding out as much as possible about you, your purchasing habits, income and family situation. That information isn't necessary for warranty purposes, but it sure helps companies collect your personal information. What will they use it for? It will be used to improve service, but also in some cases for sale and the development of customer profiles.

There was a time when warranty cards just asked for your name, address, product serial number and the date you purchased the product. Now, some cards will ask extremely personal questions, such as: "which do you value more - family time or work time?" Your answers to questions like this are just raw material for consumer purchasing profiles.
