Philosophy of Care:
Create a classroom environment that is "child-directed and teacher supported."
Children need to feel good about themselves, and be encouraged to tap into their creativity. They have a natural curiosity to explore and discover and learn best through imaginative play.
Exemplary Practices:
She provides children with support to take initiative and make their own decisions. For instance, she encourages children to choose their own school activities and projects. Kids also learn to resolve conflicts and to be more sensitive to the feelings of other students.
Ms. Bentley also keeps the lines of communication open with parents. She prepares a monthly newsletter for parents, outlining upcoming activities, and organizes regular coffee parties for parents. As well, she created a "parent library," filled with parenting resources and tips.
In Praise Of:
"Ms. Bentley continually demonstrates an amazing devotion to, and passion for, creating an environment where children thrive, challenge themselves, and feel successful." Parent
"She has great respect for young children and their needs. Rather than expecting a child to adjust to the school, she accepts and adjust the program to suit each child." Parent
