Philosophy of Care:
Put into action the motto "It takes a village to raise a child," by involving parents, families andthe community in the children's care and education.
Teach children to both respect and to be open to cultural diversity.
Exemplary Practices:
Ms. Gilliland developed a program that helps children realize that there are different ways to get along with other kids. The successful program is now being offered in child care centres, preschools and play schools throughout the community.
A strong advocate for both her preschool and profession, Ms. Gilliland often leads the preschool's fundraising campaigns. She has developed various centre materials, such as a parent handbook and a staff training manual. Ms. Gilliland also participates in workshops, courses and conferences on early childhood education and development.
