Beverley Dunne, Angela Sirianni, and Joyce Stretch are teachers at St. Rita Elementary School in Calgary. They developed a teaching unit, Simple Machines and Physical Science, to better acquaint students with the scientific process using a problem-solving approach. Students were highly motivated and became greater risk-takers as they discovered the mechanics of simple machines through this hands-on, child- centred approach.
