Josephine Vella
Josephine Vella, Mathematics Department Head at Pope John Paul II Secondary School in Scarborough, Ontario, created a Math Help Centre to provide extra help for students in danger of dropping out of mathematics. The centre, run by teacher and student volunteers, has been in operation for six years. Since then, the number of students dropping mathematics before final year has fallen to almost zero. Several of Ms. Vella's students are also Canada Scholars.
