Outstanding Achievements:
Creates a bright, cheerful, friendly place for all students to learn, regardless of their ability. There are many special needs students in Ms. Gilbert's class and she ensures that each has the fullest learning experience possible. Teacher's aids, para-professionals, parents, therapists and child welfare workers are all welcome as part of the educational team.
Occupational therapy and physical therapy activities designed for special need students are integrated into the daily lessons of all children: for example, finger stretching exercises designed to assist low muscle tone students, which become preparation for spelling tests, clapping to rhythm and substituting five-letter spelling words into BINGO song.
Ms. Gilbert uses manipulatives, drawings, teach me, teach you situations, musical adaptations and a variety of other teaching strategies to maximize students' comprehension of subjects, especially mathematics.
Stresses responsibility, good manners and respect with a kind firm manner and clearly stated consequences.
Students consistently meet or exceed expectations on provincial achievement tests.
