Teaching Approach:
- When we provide the opportunity for everyday people to talk to everyday people, we gain a wonderful understanding of the way others live.
- Support a desire to learn new things with a desire to integrate them into your own practice and students' practice.
Outstanding Achievements:
Provided the opportunity for everyday people to talk to everyday people with her From Russia With Love project. Project helps Canadian students develop understanding of the quickly changing political and social reality of a country, moving beyond textbooks more than a decade old to more immediate and relevant forms of learning. Russian students develop English-language skills and learn about Canada and life in Canada.
Students from Tom Baines School communicate with Grade 9 students and their teachers from Ekaterinburg, Russian Federation. They create and share digital video and digital still images, communicate with Russian students via email, add to a project web page and participate in online live discussions. These are all authentic assignments that students take very seriously and participate in at high technical skill level.
What began as a one-teacher search for Russian sources by email has grown to an ongoing collaborative project involving 11 teachers and 9 classes of students. Project involves a number of subject areas, including language, geography, social studies and computer technology. Parental involvement has brought extracurricular activities and media coverage to the project.

Marilee is a master teacher! She captures the hearts and spirits of the students she teaches. Assistant Principal
In all our collaborations, she has always had a positive attitude and took setbacks as challenges rather than roadblocks, which has led to her outstanding successes in this area. Curriculum leader, Careers and Technology Studies
