Grades/Subjects Taught: Grade 11/Vancouver Island Experiential Wilderness (VIEW) Program
Students should learn, grow and express themselves in positive, creative new ways.
Teaching styles can be modified and improved to better serve students.
Ms. Stevenson established the Vancouver Island Experiential Wilderness (VIEW) Program. This program is designed to provide struggling teens with an alternative to traditional, classroom-based teaching. It allows them to complete their secondary school diploma, obtain certification in eco-tourism skills, develop healthy lifestyles and connect with their community in a positive way.
She also developed the Global Perspectives Program, a career preparation course designed to provide learning and work experience in international development. The course is taught outside of the school timetable on a volunteer basis.
Ms. Stevenson engages students in the educational process by helping them find positive roles in society. As a coach, she helped youth qualify for post-secondary scholarships and helped several athletes represent Canada on the national rowing team. She set new standards of performance for British Columbia public schools on the Canadian high school rowing circuit. As a result of the high cost of operating the VIEW Program, Ms. Stevenson founded the Outreach Adventure Society, a registered charity.

"Very few who work on a daily basis with students have the dedication to bring vision into reality. Corinna is one of these teachers where ideas don't stay that way for very long." - Master Teacher
"This program and Madame Stevenson herself has been the sole driving force in the past year and a bit for my son not to drop out of school." - Parent
