Teaching Approach:
- Uses hands-on, inquiry and project-based learning.
- Encourages students to work to his or her fullest potential.
- Recognizes that literacy extends beyond teaching students to read, write, listen
and speak effectively; students are taught to retrieved, use and communicate
information from a variety of technologies.
- Works with other teachers and community organizations in order to promote a
cross-curricular aspect to the learning of her students.
Outstanding Achievements:
- Through project-based learning, Mrs. Chalupovitsch
is able to create innovative projects, choosing topics wide in scope, elaborate
in presentation and a challenge to structure into lesson plans. Projects are
completed with the help of iBook wireless laptop computers. Using technology
in this way, students are expected to hand in complete and professional looking
assignments.
- Mrs. Chalupovitsch
has developed a long-term project, Impressionism, in her classroom. Impressionism
is a project designed to combined knowledge of Art history and technology. Students
create a PowerPoint presentation for parents and friends that reflect a year's
worth of knowledge.
- Mrs. Chalupovitsch
has implemented video and digital cameras into her classroom to record classroom
achievement and highlights. She has invited a media specialist to speak to the
class to teach the students about producing a professional video using techniques
such as shooting an image, framing, composition, background, foreground and lighting.
The class then went on a field trip to a Media Centre to learn how to use a video
editing system.
- Mrs. Chalupovitsch
has introduced a cross-curricular fashion to her teaching. She incorporates college
student volunteers from Concordia and has established a partnership with the
Saidye Bronfman Centre of the Arts to assist her in realizing her project goals.
Most of her class activities are planned to provide her students with as wide
a range of experiences as possible and include brainstorming sessions, researching
assignments, excursions, viewing educational videos, artistic activities and
inviting guest speakers.

future education." - Principal, Merton School
