Teaching Approach:

Outstanding Achievements:

  • Through project-based learning, Mrs. Chalupovitsch is able to create innovative projects, choosing topics wide in scope, elaborate in presentation and a challenge to structure into lesson plans. Projects are completed with the help of iBook wireless laptop computers. Using technology in this way, students are expected to hand in complete and professional looking assignments.
  • Mrs. Chalupovitsch has developed a long-term project, Impressionism, in her classroom. Impressionism is a project designed to combined knowledge of Art history and technology. Students create a PowerPoint presentation for parents and friends that reflect a year's worth of knowledge.
  • Mrs. Chalupovitsch has implemented video and digital cameras into her classroom to record classroom achievement and highlights. She has invited a media specialist to speak to the class to teach the students about producing a professional video using techniques such as shooting an image, framing, composition, background, foreground and lighting. The class then went on a field trip to a Media Centre to learn how to use a video editing system.
  • Mrs. Chalupovitsch has introduced a cross-curricular fashion to her teaching. She incorporates college student volunteers from Concordia and has established a partnership with the Saidye Bronfman Centre of the Arts to assist her in realizing her project goals. Most of her class activities are planned to provide her students with as wide a range of experiences as possible and include brainstorming sessions, researching assignments, excursions, viewing educational videos, artistic activities and inviting guest speakers.
