Teaching Approach:
- Get students actively involved in learning. Investigation is a common factor in Mr. Coulter's lessons, with students expected to delve into problems, create hypotheses, design lab procedures to test their beliefs, collect and analyze data, and draw conclusions.
- Learning is a communal activity; students are expected to face one another and present and defend their ideas, their work and their conclusions.
Outstanding Achievements:
- Was the first teacher at his school to teach online courses and worked with the administration to bring technology into all classrooms.
- Played an integral part in establishing a house system in which each student at Hamiota is a member of a team. Students can then earn points for their team by, among other things, getting top marks on a test, participating in intramural sports, making their best effort on an assignment or keeping a clean locker.
Rave Reviews:
"The transition from high school to university was very easy for me. In my university Chemistry and Biology courses I was finding that most of the concepts presented I already understood from having learned them in high school" Former student
"Bruce Coulter has had a great impact on many students over the years, whether it's been through academics, sports, or simply having them be part of a group that shows they are important. In his quiet way Bruce has helped them to become the people they are." Parent
