Teaching Approach

  • Enthusiastically supports the school's Round Square teaching philosophy, based on the teachings of Kurt Hahn, a pioneer in outdoor education, that education should involve a commitment to internationalism, democracy, environmentalism, adventure, leadership and service.
  • Developed international service component of the program as an effective means of enabling students to learn life lessons for future interaction in their global communities.

Outstanding Achievements

  • Integrated a new earth sciences course into the curriculum that features experiential learning and uses the school's environment as a base to relate student experiences within the course to their local and international surroundings. For example, students did a mock environmental assessment for a development project in the area.
  • Oversaw increased student involvement in the international service component (through which students take part in service projects around the world) from an initial 15 students four years ago to the point that the school can now offer the chance to participate to all its students.
