Teaching Approach
- Every student has the capacity to learn and become a contributing member of the community. The teacher's task is to help students find their own life paths through interactions with others and ideas.
- Challenge students to succeed and to take the kind of risks necessary for true learning.
Outstanding Achievements
- Led a three-year project to locate photographs and biographical information documenting the stories of the 132 students from Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute who died in the two world wars to create a Memorial Wall in the school library. To commemorate VE Day in 2005, he used this information in a multimedia presentation to honour the contributions of these former students to both the school and the community.
- IB history students develop essay skills by working together to present and publicly defend their thesis statements, handouts and presentation techniques to other students who provide critical feedback.
Rave Reviews
"What impressed me most about Kevin during my time at KCVI was his work on establishing a memorial for students who volunteered to serve in the armed forces of Canada during the first and second world wars. This was a labour of love for Kevin." School superintendent
"His OAC Economics class greatly influenced my decision to pursue this subject as a major in university. … Far from being the 'dismal' science, Mr. Reed made the subject engaging by relying on contemporary articles and analysis as well as student-driven presentations." Student
