Combined FIP Signature

The combined FIP signature consists of the names of a maximum of two federal departments or agencies. It may be used when two federal institutions collaborate on an initiative.

This signature consists of the flag symbol and the official titles of both departments or agencies in both official languages, as shown below. In most applications, the titles are set in medium-weight Helvetica (Helvetica Neue 65), with the text appearing side by side in both official languages. On stationery, however, the text appears in light-weight Helvetica (Helvetica Neue 45). The Federal Identity Program Manual includes detailed design specifications for combined FIP signatures.

Use of the combined FIP signature on promotional items (e.g. pens, pins, T-shirts and mugs) is discretionary, since these items are not covered by FIP policy.

When considering using a combined FIP signature, contact Communications and Marketing Branch for advice.

For appropriate uses of the combined FIP signature, see Procedures.

Language Variations

Always present the combined FIP signature in bilingual format, with the titles in both official languages appearing side by side to the right of the flag symbol. Use the English-first or French-first variations of the combined FIP signature for English- or French-language publications or for bilingual publications, as appropriate.

Colour Applications

The combined FIP signature may be presented in the following colour variations.

Two colours. The flag symbol appears in FIP red. The letters appear in black on items with white or light backgrounds, or in reverse white on items with black or dark backgrounds. FIP red may be reproduced using Pantone 185 (a four-colour process mix of 91 percent magenta and 76 percent yellow) or Pantone 032 (a four-colour process mix of 91 percent magenta and 87 percent yellow). The RGB (red-green-blue) value for FIP red is 255-0-0, and the hexadecimal value is #FF0000.

One colour. The flag symbol and letters both appear in the same colour. Use a dark colour on items with white or light backgrounds to ensure sufficient contrast. Set the signature in reverse white on items with black or dark backgrounds, as long as there is sufficient contrast.
